Dental visit prep
Walk into your appointment prepared
Dentist visits go better when you arrive organised: your story clear, your questions written, your cost expectations set. These are the templates we use with our clients — borrow them freely.
Preparation checklist
The week before your visit
Write the timeline
When did it start, what makes it better or worse, has it changed. Three sentences beat a vague memory.
List your medicines
Prescriptions, supplements, recent illness. All of it matters clinically and saves chair time.
Photograph what comes and goes
A chip, a discoloured patch, a sore that appears and fades — a photo captures what the dentist might not see today.
Write your three questions
The things you actually want answered. Put them at the top so the appointment starts with them.
Say it like this
Phrases that get clear answers
Situation
What you can say
Describing pain
“It is a sharp pain in the lower left back tooth area. Cold water triggers it; it lasts about a minute. It started three weeks ago and is getting more frequent.”
Asking about costs
“Before we start — could you talk me through the likely costs for this visit, and what each option would cost if we choose differently?”
Getting clarity on a plan
“Can I have the treatment plan in writing with the items listed, so I can think about it and compare?”
Boundary note: preparation guidance does not include diagnostic conclusions — only your dentist, after examining you, can diagnose or propose treatment. We help you arrive ready for that conversation.
